Volvo has officially unveiled its new all-electric sedan, the ES90. Describing the brand's latest innovation, Volvo CEO said, “The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life.”
Design and Exterior
The ES90 distinguishes itself from the standard S90 with several unique design elements. At the front, it features Volvo’s signature "Thor’s Hammer" LED headlights, while the rear is characterized by popular C-shaped LED taillights along with additional lights integrated within the rear window—a design element reminiscent of the EX90 SUV.
From the side, the ES90 showcases a sleek, flowing roofline designed to enhance aerodynamics, improving both efficiency and electric range. Customers can personalize their ES90 with a choice of seven exterior colors and four wheel options, ranging from 20 to 22 inches.
As a sedan, practicality is also a priority. The ES90 offers 424 liters of boot space, which can be expanded to 733 liters by folding down the three rear seats—each of which folds individually. Additionally, the 22-liter frunk (front trunk) provides a convenient storage area for charging cables.

A panoramic roof comes standard, offering 99.9% UV protection. Customers can also opt for an electrochromic version that allows adjustment of the glass’s transparency for added comfort and privacy.
Interior and Technology
Inside the ES90, Volvo emphasizes Scandinavian design with a focus on premium comfort, authentic materials, and a purpose-driven layout. The quiet cabin features a 14.5-inch center display, providing access to navigation, climate controls, entertainment, and phone connectivity. A new 3D surround-view system with a 360-degree camera assists with navigating tight spaces.
The ES90 supports Google’s built-in infotainment system, offering services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and additional apps through Google Play.

For an immersive audio experience, Volvo has equipped the ES90 with a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, featuring 25 high-fidelity speakers, including units integrated into the headrests and ceiling. Six ambient lighting themes further enhance the driving experience, while a range of upholstery options allows for extensive personalization.
Platform and Performance
Built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture, the ES90 shares its foundation with the EX90 SUV and operates on Volvo Cars’ Superset tech stack—a unified system of hardware and software modules that will support all future electric models.
The ES90 debuts 800-volt battery technology, which enables faster charging and improved efficiency. At 350 kW fast-charging stations, the ES90 can add 300 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. Under the WLTP testing cycle, it delivers a maximum driving range of up to 700 kilometers on a full charge. You can either get a Single motor that uses 92kwh battery with an output of 245kw an is able to give you a range of 644km. the second option is a twin motor which drives all wheels that increases power output to 304kw and range to 700km.
Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance
As expected from Volvo, safety remains a priority. The ES90 is built to meet the brand’s rigorous Car Safety Standard, which draws on 55 years of real-world safety research—exceeding official testing requirements.
The ES90 features a reinforced safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimized deformation zones to protect occupants during collisions. Its active safety systems are powered by a comprehensive array of sensors, including:
5 radars
7 cameras
12 ultrasonic sensors
Lidar technology from Luminar Technologies
These advanced sensors provide vision beyond human capability, helping to detect and avoid potential hazards on the road.

Availability
The new Volvo ES90 is available for order in select parts of Europe, with other markets— hopefully including South Africa—expected to follow later in 2025 and 2026.
